Desert, here we come!

January 20, 2013

Heading to Apache Junction, Az.

Long time no post.  We are finally on the road again.  We are leaving cold (kind of, the weather has been mild in Ok) and ending up in Desert Hot Springs, Ca.  First we are going to spend a week or so in Apache Junction.  Hoping to do some hiking and some great bike rides, if it is level!  After breaking my ankle in May, then having extreme problems with my sacrailliac, caused by limping, I am so out of shape that I am hoping to get a lot of exercise on this trip.

We are traveling with friends, Becki and Gene.  They recently purchased a travel trailer and this is their first extended trip in it.

We met in the shopping center parking lot.

Traveling with two dogs and four old people means many stops.  We had lunch at a truck stop in the iHome.

Babe and Beau are not impressed with traveling.  Beau keeps his eye on the road just in case Al needs help.

The first day we stayed in Amarillo.  http://www.overnitervpark.com/
We have overnighted here two other times when we had the 5th wheel.  It is a great place to spend the night.  They have spaces with dog pens beside the rv spot.  We got one this time and it was so handy to just put the dogs in there and then we could easily set up.  We got in right at dark and it was cold, so I have no pictures.  We were tired and hungry.  Gene and Becki met Gene's sister for dinner in Amarillo.  We just stayed in.  I cooked something but was too tired to remember what!   We were glad to have our heated mattress pad as it got about 24 degrees that night.  It was great in the morning to just open the door and boot the dogs into the pen and not have to wander around in the cold while they did their thing.  We were all on the road about 10.   It was going to be a short day as we were just traveling to Albuquerque.  We were going to go to Gallup, but it was going to be 7 degrees there so decided against that!

Lunch on the way to Alburquerque

The sun was wonderful!

We stayed the night at the American RV Park.  http://www.americanrvpark.com/Default.aspx        Very nice and clean park with very level cement pads.
And there was a Camping World just down the street.  Got to have that fix!  Never know what we might need.
Found a great Mexican Restaurant for dinner and were just in time for Happy Hour.  And boy did we need double drinks.
Becki and Gene in their nice level spot.
We would not want to be here in mid summer.  They did have
some trees for shade in another area.
